Core finance · Vendor-source research

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Last checked 2 November 2026

Verdict · Editorial assessment

A shortlist option for small and midsize organisations that want finance, purchasing, inventory and projects in one operational system, particularly where Microsoft 365 is already the daily workspace. Evaluate the implementation partner and country-specific extensions alongside the software: the published licence price is not a delivery budget. Separate ordinary Copilot assistance from credit-metered agents before comparing automation costs.

What the vendor describes

  • Microsoft says Business Central supports multiple currencies, consolidations and intercompany transactions, with connections to Outlook, Excel, Teams and Power BI. Source ↗
  • Microsoft lists finance and multiple companies in Essentials; Premium adds manufacturing and service order management. Sales Order Agent and Payables Agent require separately sold Copilot Credits. Source ↗

Pricing and commercial scope

The checked UK page lists Essentials at £61.50, Premium at £84.60 and limited-access Team Members at £6.20 per user/month, paid yearly, excluding VAT. Microsoft qualifies prices by country and currency. Partner assessment, implementation, extensions and agent credits need separate confirmation.

Limitations of this assessment

  • Microsoft says sales and support are exclusively through its partner network; local delivery capability is part of the buying decision.
  • Team Members is restricted access, not a discounted substitute for a full finance licence. Manufacturing is a Premium capability.

European requirements to verify

  • To verify: Global availability and tax-regulation support are vendor claims, not a country-level compliance assessment. Verify each entity’s VAT returns, statutory outputs, e-invoicing mandate and bank-feed availability with the proposed partner.Source ↗
  • To verify: Contractual hosting locations, subprocessors, international transfers and retention need a DPA review; the checked product pages do not establish suitability for a particular European entity.

Integration boundaries

  • To verify: Microsoft advertises Microsoft 365 connections, open architecture and partner apps, including Shopify. Verify object coverage, write permissions, reconciliation, failure recovery and extension ownership with the actual tenant; no integration was executed.Source ↗
